Sunbury United Methodist Church will open its annual Village Harvest Festival at 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, at the church, 100 W. Cherry St., Sunbury.

Sunbury United Methodist Church will open its annual Village Harvest Festival at 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, at the church, 100 W. Cherry St., Sunbury.

This free community event includes both indoor and outdoor family activities. Games, a make-and-take craft, a complimentary family photo and homemade chili and beverages will be offered indoors. Outside will be a bonfire, open fire pits for hot dog and marshmallow roasting, hayrides, a pumpkin patch, a puppet show and the BST&G Fire District's smokehouse.

At 7 p.m., Halloween candy will be handed out from the backs of vehicles in the lower level parking lot. Goody bags will be provided to collect the treats. Family-friendly costumes are encouraged for this "Trunk or Treating" activity.

Should the weather not cooperate, many of the outdoor activities, including "Trunk or Treating," will be moved indoors.
