Shutdown closes part of Alum Creek park

Friday October 4, 2013 5:40 PM

The U.S. government's shutdown has forced the closure of a small section of Alum Creek State Park under federal control.

The below-dam area off Lewis Center Road, along with its parking areas, shelters and playgrounds, are closed for the duration of the shutdown, said Loren Hart, assistant manager for the central district of the state Division of Natural Areas and Preserves. The land is controlled by the Army Corps of Engineers.

The shutdown affects only the federally funded portion of the park, Hart said. Other access points and recreational areas remain open.
