Thieves find bounty in unlocked cars

Thieves targeted three unlocked vehicles last week, according to Delaware police reports.

A cellphone valued at $300 was reported stolen from a vehicle parked in the 100 block of Beech Drive. Reports said the phone was taken from the unlocked vehicle between 9 p.m. Oct. 10 and 6 a.m. Oct. 11.

On Oct. 13, gift cards, cash and medicine went missing from a vehicle parked in the 200 block of Thornapple Trail.

Reports said $50 worth of gift cards, $14 in cash, $6 in foreign coins, a bottle of over-the-counter headache medicine and four Vicodin tablets were stolen from the unlocked vehicle overnight.

Reports also said DVDs worth $100 were stolen between 6 p.m. Oct. 14 and 7:15 a.m. Oct. 15 from an unlocked vehicle parked in a yard in the 500 block of Thistle Drive.

In other recent Delaware police reports:

* Someone slashed two tires on a vehicle parked in the first block of Spring Lake Court between 3 p.m. Oct. 13 and 4:56 a.m. Oct. 14, reports said.

* A burglary investigation is ongoing, reports said, after a video-game console reportedly was stolen from a home in the 200 block of South Sandusky Street. Reports said the console, valued at $300, was taken between 10 p.m. Oct. 9 and 5:30 p.m. Oct. 10.

* A resident of the first block of Flax Street reported Oct. 11 that someone had been entering her home overnight, taking her debit card and withdrawing cash before returning the card to its original spot in the home.

The report said the activity continued for two weeks before the victim noticed that more than $11,000 in cash had been withdrawn.
