* Manga Drawing Class, 1 to 3 p.m., Monday, Dec. 30. Ages 10 and up can learn basics of manga-style drawing with teen volunteer Chris Osborn. Registration required. Free.

* Friends' Used Book Event, sale through Monday, Jan. 6; runs concurrent with library hours.

* First Thursday Book Group, 7 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 2. Always Put in a Recipe and Other Tips for Living by Evelyn Berkby will be discussed. Extra books are available at the library.

* LEGO Club, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, for ages 5 to 10. We provide the LEGOS; you provide the imagination. Registration required. Free.

* New knitting group, 10 a.m. to noon Mondays beginning Jan. 6. Bring your knitting or crochet project, or bring yarn and needles.

* Journal Writing Group, 1 to 2 p.m., Monday, Jan. 6. Write for yourself or your grandchildren. Meetings on the first and third Mondays offer discipline, motivation and support.

* Dog Tales: Read to a Furry Friend, 4 to 5 p.m. Mondays, starting Jan. 13 and ending Feb. 17. For ages 6 and up. Reading to a licensed therapy dog and his/her owner provides a relaxed, non-judgmental setting to practice reading skills and gain self-confidence. No registration required. Free.

* Kids' Club, 3:45 to 4:30 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 16. Children in second and third grade will share a book and activity at this first meeting, then decide what to do during February's get-together. Media specialist Bette Roberts will lead the group. Registration required. Free.

* Tuesday Evening Knitters, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays, for knitting and conversation.

* Winter Reading Club, Feb. 3 to March 1. "Reading is Hot, Hot, HOT!" Children up to 11 years who read or listen for four hours receive a small prize and also are entered for a chance to win one of the library's grand prizes, including a pinata with candy, a $20 Mi Sombrero gift certificate, or a DVD of their choice (up to a $25 value).

No registration is required and siblings are welcome at the following free weekly programs:

* Babytime, ages 0-23 months, 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. Tuesdays. For infants and toddlers with an accompanying adult.

* Time for Twos, 2-year-olds, 9:45 a.m. Tuesdays. For children accompanied by an adult.

* Wiggles and Giggles, 3-year-olds, 9:45 to 10:15 a.m. Thursdays.

* Laugh and Learn, ages 4-6, 10:30 to 11 a.m. Thursdays.
