The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium is a part of “One Million Actions for Planet Earth,” a program of Arctic Action Teams, where people in the community are collaborating via myactions.org/columbus to total one million actions by Earth Day 2014. All are welcome to sign up on the site and start logging and sharing actions. The more actions you share, the more donations the Columbus Zoo will receive from corporate sponsors who are part of the program.
The zoo plans to use the proceeds to help with conservation projects benefitting bonobos, gorillas, manatees, tigers, penguins, rhinos, polar bears and elephants. Columbus Zoo and Aquarium is one of the first Zoos invited to join this groundbreaking program. People from all around central Ohio will share their green and sustainable actions in support of the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium. On the myActions social platform, each action triggers a small donation for the zoo and earns the participant virtual rewards.
Each action shared triggers virtual rewards, a small donation and measures the real world impact of individual action. As one of the most active zoo areas, the program will focus in particular on the Ohio Valley region, working with zoos such as Cincinnati, Louisville and Pittsburgh. Through social sharing, this movement hopes to activate and encourage positive sustainable behavior change, creating long-term CO2 reduction and supporting the conservation efforts of zoos and aquariums.
