Ohio Wesleyan University’s Perkins Observatory, “Celebration of the Sun” events, at 4 p.m. July 19 and 26, at the observatory, 3199 Columbus Pike (U.S. 23), Delaware. Perkins staff and volunteers will help guests to observe sunspots and solar prominences – explosions on the sun’s surface. Reservations are strongly recommended. Tickets purchased in advance are $8 general admission; $6 for children age 17 and younger; and $6 for senior citizens (age 62 and older). At the door, tickets are $2 more. Ohio State University Alumni Club of Delaware County, annual ice cream social for incoming OSU freshmen, 7 to 8 p.m. July 22, at the shelter house at McNamara Park. The park is accessed by a shared driveway with Genoa Township’s Safety Complex at 7049 Big Walnut Road. St. John Neumann Community Festival, 6 to 11 p.m. Aug. 1 and 5 to 11 p.m. Aug. 2, at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 9633 E. state Route 37, Sunbury. The event will feature a midway for children of all ages, festival food, a raffle with cash prizes and a silent auction. Friday night will be headlined by Phil Dirt and the Dozers at 9 p.m. with Andy Wallace and Two Bricks Shy earlier that evening. Saturday features the John Schwab Party Band at 9 p.m. preceded by the Usual Suspects and Repeat Offenders.



Delaware General Health District, A Matter of Balance classes, 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Thursdays, Aug. 7 through Sept. 25, at the Center for Older Adults, 800 Cheshire Road, Delaware. These free sessions will teach participants some non-strenuous exercises that will help improve balance. Participants will also have the opportunity to talk with classmates about experiences and learn ways to reduce the fear of falling. Classes are open to Delaware County residents age 60 and older. Support groups

National Alliance on Mental Illness of Delaware and Morrow Counties, NAMI Connection Recovery Support Group, 7 to 8:30 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month at 325 S. Sandusky St., Suite 301, Delaware. This support group, for people living with a mental illness, will be facilitated by trained volunteers who also live with a mental illness. The group helps people learn from shared experiences while offering an opportunity to share coping strategies and offer encouragement. There is no fee. Tea & Tears-Westerville, a support group for family members of those facing a mental illness, meets from 1 to 3 p.m. the fourth Saturday of each month at Church of the Messiah, Meeting House, 51 N.
