Mike Golden has been named football coach at Delaware Hayes High School.
Golden, 58, spent the past nine seasons as coach at Upper Arlington, where he compiled a 65-33 record and guided the Golden Bears to five Division I playoff appearances, the last coming in 2011. The Bears finished 5-5 this past season.
Golden coached Watterson from 1988-2002, leading the Eagles to the Division III state title in 2002, and New Albany in 2004 before moving on to UA in 2005. In 25 seasons as a head coach, he is 203-78 with 16 playoff appearances.
“We introduced him to the kids on (Jan. 24) and we’re all pretty excited about getting this started,” Delaware athletics director Clint Fetty said. “We think it’s a great hire.”
Golden replaces Zebb Schroeder, who stepped down earlier this month to take the same position at Olentangy Orange. Schroeder was 11-19 in three seasons with the Pacers, including 5-5 this past season.
