The strategic study of the Bridge Street corridor will utilize the knowledge and suggestions of "stakeholders," City Manager Terry Foegler said.

Dublin began a strategic study of the corridor, which includes Historic Dublin, the Dublin Village Center development and the intersection of U.S. Route 33 and state Route 161, in early August.

Boston-based consulting firm Goody, Clancy and Associates was brought in to help with the study, which will forecast development, redevelopment and infrastructure by looking at market-based research and more.

Foegler has worked with the consultants previously and said the public will be involved in the study.

"What I like about their approach is they work with us to develop as many stakeholders as possible," he said.

Stakeholders can include developers, landowners, neighborhood groups, nonprofit organizations, local businesses and the school district.

According to Foegler, the consultants already have begun meeting with stakeholders without city staff present to get "unfiltered" and honest information.

Both stakeholders and the public will be involved throughout the process, whether it's voicing ideas and concerns or having ideas proposed to them and providing feedback, Foegler said.

"We will continue to meet with stakeholders throughout the process," he said. "As we come up with ideas we will have a variety of forums with either the property owners or a group."

The city is banking on high public participation.

"We want it to be something the key stakeholders are supportive enough of that we can set up partnerships," Foegler said.

Public participation also will help produce a "feasible" study, he said.

While public participation is a must in the process, so are reputable and knowledgeable sources of information.

Foegler said the city will bring in a series of speakers in the fall to talk with stakeholders on market-based research, demographics and more.

The speakers will include Christopher Leinberger, author of "The Option of Urbanism." According to Foegler, the land-use strategist and developer focuses on transforming traditional and suburban areas into walkable areas.

"I think there will be regional interest," he said. "We'll do something for the stakeholders and try to organize something for the region."
