The former Corazon Club and Spa was sold at a Union County sheriff's sale on Tuesday, Oct. 20.

The property, appraised at $5.5-million, was purchased for $3.6-million by Peoples Bank, which already owned the mortgage on the club at 7155 Corazon Drive in the Tartan West development near Glacier Ridge Metro Park.

Bob Castor, an attorney at Carlile Patchen & Murphy who represents Peoples Bank, said the bank plans to sell the property.

"The bank will continue to market the property and try to get the best deal they can find," he said.

Corazon Club and Spa had troubles since its March 2007 opening. Construction costs were more than expected and membership goals were not reached. It suspended operations in October 2008, but was reopened as the Tartan Athletic Club by Driving Force Management last December.

The club announced in an e-mail to members early last month that it was again closing the doors. The facility had been operating only as an athletic club.

The 60,000-square-foot, Tuscan-inspired facility included a spa, fitness area, indoor and outdoor pools and café.
