The search for a Dublin Scioto High School principal is progressing, although the new leader might not come on board until next school year.

Tracey Miller, the district's director of secondary education and a former Coffman High School principal, took over administrative duties at Scioto after Marina Davis, 63, died Dec. 14 of a stroke while at home. She had been the principal of Scioto since its 1995 opening.

Superintendent David Axner said the principal position was first opened to applicants within the school district, and "we got three quality candidates."

According to Axner, Coffman High School assistant principal Dusty Miller, Scioto High School assistant principal Dan Morris and district equity and diversity coordinator Sean Ross are the internal candidates.

The district opened up the position to outside applicants last week.

"I was looking for four or five to round out the field," Axner said last week. "So we have posted the position and that will be open until March 5."

Axner said candidate interviews would involve staff, parents and students.

If an internal candidate is chosen, Scioto will have a new principal before the end of the school year, he said. If not, Scioto might have to wait a little longer for a new leader.

"If it's an external candidate they'll probably already be in a position, so the move will happen in the summer," Axner said.
