Kenny Loggins will take Dublin into the "Danger Zone" at 8 p.m. Saturday, July 3.

A Loggins concert at the Dublin Coffman High School stadium will be featured during the city's annual Independence Day celebration. In honor of the city's bicentennial, the theme this year is "Dublin Through the Decades."

According to community events coordinator Mary Jo DiSalvo, the city will pay Loggins $85,000 for the performance.

"That's our whole budget," she said. "We wanted to have one great entertainment act. This being the bicentennial, we wanted to make a splash."

Loggins started his career as half of Loggins and Messina, before going on to a solo career that included hits such as "I'm Alright," "Danger Zone" and "Footloose," all of which were featured on movie soundtracks.

DiSalvo said Loggins has been on the city's list of desired entertainers for a while.

"We do ask, every year, and people give us their opinions on what they'd like," she said. "We like him because he has lots of hits. I think he spans generations."

That makes him a great fit for the theme of the day, DiSalvo said.

The Independence Day parade begins at 11 a.m. July 3 and will follow the "Dublin Through the Decades" theme. The city is encouraging parade entries to mix Dublin history and patriotism.

DiSalvo said local talent will take the stage before Loggins' concert.

"Because this is 'Dublin Through the Decades' and it's the bicentennial, we're having local bands that reflect the theme," she said. "We already have the Dublin Cornet Band scheduled."

The city will look to the future when it comes to singing the national anthem. DiSalvo said the city is looking for a Dublin high school senior or seniors to do the honors.

"Every year it's a privilege and honor for a Dublin high school senior to sing the national anthem. We're looking for someone to come forward and audition," she said. "It could be a small group."

Anyone interested in auditioning to sing the national anthem for the Independence Day concert can contact the community events division at 410-4545.

On-field tables for the Independence Day concert will go on sale to Dublin residents starting at 7:30 a.m. May 5 at the Dublin Community Recreation Center, 5600 Post Road. Tables of 10 cost $100 and are limited to two per household. Proof of residency must be shown at the purchase.

Tables also can be purchased in advance of May 5 for $1,000 as part of the Patriotic Table Partner Program.

The Loggins concert will help round out Dublin's Independence Day celebration. The day begins at 8 a.m. with the Sherm Sheldon Fishing Derby, followed by the parade. Fireworks will end the celebration at 9:50 p.m.
