Family and friends have scheduled a black-tie dinner to honor two Dublin teens who died in a car crash last year.

The remembrance for Kyle Colello and Lyndsey Rice is scheduled for 5 p.m. Monday, May 3, at the Marriott Northwest Hotel, 5605 Blazer Parkway. The event will include dinner, music and a silent auction.

Colello, a Scioto High School senior, and Rice, a sophomore, were killed Nov. 28, 2009, in a one-car crash in southern Delaware County.

Steve Wheaton, Rice's uncle, said the black-tie event will give the community another chance to remember the teens.

Colello was a football player at Scioto and Rice was a cheerleader.

"We're trying to keep the memory of the kids alive as best as we can," Wheaton said. "We'll raise money for the scholarship funds and come together as Lyndsey and Kyle always liked to do."

May 3 also was Rice's birthday; she would have been 16.

"Lyndsey's 16th birthday is that day. We'll get everyone together to eat," Wheaton said. "She's part of a big family. She always enjoyed getting together with family for birthday parties."

The event will begin with cocktails from 5 to 6:30 p.m. The buffet-style dinner that will include beef, chicken, salad and mashed potatoes will begin at 6:30 p.m.

The silent auction will include autographed memorabilia and restaurant certificates. Proceeds will go to scholarship funds established at Scioto High School in the names of Colello and Rice.

"Proceeds will be split between the two scholarship funds," Wheaton said.

About half of the 350 tickets available for the event had been sold as of last week, he said.

Members of the Colello and Rice families will attend the event, in addition to friends from Scioto High School, Wheaton said.

"They were great kids. We're just wanting to keep their memories alive now and forever," he said.

Tickets for the Lyndsey Rice and Kyle Colello Black Tie Dinner cost $35 for adults and $18 for children under 12. Tables of 10 can be reserved or tickets can be purchased separately.

Black tie is optional; business attire will be accepted.
