Mary Kattenhorn has been selected as the grand marshal for Dublin's Independence Day festivities.

The 91-year-old Dublin resident will lead the city's Independence Day parade that begins at 11 a.m. July 3 and goes through Historic Dublin.

"I am truly honored to have been selected to serve as grand marshal," Kattenhorn said in a release from the city. "Dublin is a special place and I treasure the wonderful relationships I have made through volunteering."

The grand marshal is chosen based on volunteer and business contributions to the city.

According to the city, Kattenhorn has volunteered more than 1,000 hours; most recently she has volunteered at the Dublin Community Recreation Center.

She also has received the President's Volunteer Service Award every year since 2005.
