Kanaad Parvate, a student at Henry Karrer Middle School, has been selected to receive a Governor's Award from the Ohio Academy of Science.

He is one of 12 STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) students recognized for demonstrating excellence in student research.

Parvate placed third in the seventh- through ninth-grade division for information science and technology research.

STEM students presented their research projects at State Science Day earlier this year. A panel of 50 industry, government and academic professionals judged the projects.

Art work created by students at Davis Middle School will be on display at the Franklin Park Conservatory from Aug. 30 through Sept. 11.

Students created "Mutant Plant" sculptures that will be shown in conjunction with the conservatory's "Savage Garden" exhibit.
