Several juveniles were cited for underage drinking at a Powell area residence Aug. 4.

According to reports from the Delaware County Sheriff's office, 19 underage people were cited for trying to purchase, possess or consume alcohol, a first-degree misdemeanor, about 9 p.m. Aug. 4 at a residence in the 7400 block of Whirlaway Circle, in Powell.

The incident involved juveniles as young as 15 and as old as 18.

A 55-year-old man was also charged with disorderly conduct and obstruction of justice.

Several of the juveniles live in Dublin or within the Dublin City School district.

Any punishment issued to students is protected by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, school district officials said.

According to the Dublin City School's high school handbook, students shall not use, give or sell drugs or alcohol to others "... during the course of any school year, including summer school sessions and extracurricular activities; on any property owned, leased by or under the control of the Dublin Board of Education, including vehicles used for the transportation of students; at any school-sponsored or sanctioned activity or event away from or within the school district."

Listed potential punishments include suspension ranging from five to 10 days, the loss of driving and parking privileges, notification of the Bureau of Motor Vehicles and, in the case of a third offense, expulsion.
