Heather Habrecht will take the reins of Wyandot Elementary School from a 20-year Dublin educator.

Habrecht will take over as principal of the school from John Pfeiffer, who has 35 years in education and 20 of them with Dublin City Schools.

Habrecht has considerable experience at the elementary-school level and began her education career with the Northmont City Schools, teaching first and second grades.

"After teaching grades one, two, three, four and five, coaching soccer at the club, high school and college level, I decided to pursue my administrative career," Habrecht said.

"This happened to be in Olentangy at the time where I started as an assistant (principal) for a year and then was fortunate enough to be offered the principal position the following year."

Habrecht became principal of Alum Creek Elementary School in 2010 after teaching fifth grade and being an assistant principal.

She said she believes elementary education serves as a building block for students.

"Early education is so important for the future and long-term success in students," Habrecht said.

Being a principal also gives Habrecht a chance to improve education for students.

"The world of education is always taking a critical look at enhancing academic and social experiences for students," she said.

"As an elementary principal, I get the opportunity to learn with and facilitate new learning for educators and be part of how that hard work directly impacts students," she said.

"There is nothing better than creating positive relationships with these students and watching them flourish."

As her first year in Dublin City Schools approaches, Habrecht said she looks forward to working with the staff at Wyandot Elementary School.

"Wyandot is a very successful school with a knowledgeable and professional staff," she said. "I think it is important to maintain the warm family environment while being able to challenge each other professionally."

Getting to know the school and maintaining high academic standards are Habrecht's immediate plans for Wyandot Elementary School.

"As critical changes are occurring in education it will be important for Wyandot to have a collaborative environment that holds each member, including our students, to high expectations," she said.

"I am excited to get the school year started and can't wait to meet the students and families of Wyandot."
