Glacier Ridge Elementary School PTO members are counting on people's yearning for the winter thaw to draw them to the annual Meltdown carnival.
The winter carnival is a fundraiser for the PTO, but it also acts as a winter activity to help with cabin fever.
"It is pretty crowded," said Stephanie Van Meter, one of the event's organizers.
In the past the event has drawn 300 to 400 people, including more than 200 students for games, entertainment and other activities.
"We're doing a video game truck that will sit in the parking lot," Van Meter said.
"We have inflatables and some things for the bigger kids ... . There's facepainting, mini-manicures (and) a photo booth."
Basketball, corn hole and carnival games are also offered at the Meltdown fundraiser.
"There's a cake walk, which is always a huge hit," Van Meter said. "Kids either get a baked good or a book."
A silent auction will also help raise money at the winter carnival and offers items such as a Zoombezi Bay water park pass and a backyard football game with former Ohio State University quarterback Craig Krenzel.
"The biggest deal is the game with OSU player Craig Krenzel," Van Meter said. "Basically it's a game with him and you invite you friends and have a backyard game ... .
"We have some cool gifts every year," she said. "People get a little competitive and vie for them."
Food will also be on sale at the Meltdown carnival and proceeds from the event go back to the Dublin elementary school through PTO funding. The PTO previously helped fund a butterfly garden at the school.
"It is all for the school and for the kids and for the classrooms," Van Meter said.
The Meltdown carnival will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 2 at Glacier Ridge Elementary School, 7175 Glacier Ridge Blvd.
Wristbands for children ages 3 and older can be purchased at the event for $15 and include access to inflatables, games and entertainers. Additional tickets will be needed for face painting, the photo booth and mini-manicures.
Overflow parking with shuttle service will be offered.
