Job fair for students is April 6 at Dublin Jerome
Dublin City School District students can get a start on finding summer employment April 6.
The annual Dublin Works! Summer Job Fair attracts between 500 to 700 students each year and will run from 9 a.m. to noon April 6 at Jerome High School, 8300 Hyland Croy, Road.
"It's become a very popular event," said Doug Baker, Dublin City Schools public information officer.
Employers such as the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, Buffalo Wild Wings, Wendy's, Moo Moo Car Washing, Kroger, Giant Eagle, Menchie's and Cinemark Movies are expected to recruit Dublin City School students.
A few new companies will also be on hand.
"Kinsale Golf (and Fitness Club), Scioto Reserve (Country Club) and Premier (at Sawmill Athletic Club) are new," Baker said of the ninth annual event.
"We're happy to have them. There are a lot of great companies there. It's a great partnership with the businesses in Dublin... . When you do something this many years in a row, it gets a good reputation."
Companies expected at the April 6 job fair take employees from ages 14 to 18 and Baker advised students to be prepared with a work permit, social security card and information about when they can start.
"Come prepared to fill out an application, and in some cases, interview," he said. "With that in mind, dress appropriately. I'm not saying a coat and tie, but be neatly attired."
Some students have left the job fair, which is a collaboration between the school district and Dublin Chamber of Commerce, with summer employment.
"Students with questions can talk to their guidance office," Baker said. "They have work permit packets."
"This event provides our students with the opportunity to practice skills they will need later in life, and to obtain seasonal employment in our community," Superintendent David Axner said.
"The summer job fair is a great example of the district's partnership with the chamber and with our business community," he said.
The Dublin Works! Summer Job Fair is open to all Dublin City School students who are of working age.
