Warm weather brings road construction

With warm weather here and the annual street maintenance program set, Dublin residents can expect to see road closures and detours over the next few months.

The city will construct a roundabout at the Hyland Croy and Brand roads intersection this summer, with road closures coming next month.

Work on the $3.1-million roundabout is expected to start this month, with completion set for the end of August.

Dublin anticipates closing the south leg of the intersection at Hyland Croy Road and the west leg at Mitchell DeWitt Road June 6.

Construction of the Dublin Road South bike path will also close a portion of Dublin Road, Engineer Paul Hammersmith said.

"We'll construct the second phase of the path between Hertford Lane and Rings Road," he said.

Dublin Road between Hertford Lane and Rings Road will be closed from June 7 until the project is completed in late August.

The project calls for the installation of about 1,230 feet of 8-foot wide asphalt, concrete ramps, stone walls and a pre-fabricated pedestrian bridge for $299,172.

The Emerald Parkway improvements Dublin is doing with Columbus continue and the roundabout at Lakehurst and Emerald Parkway opened last week, Hammersmith said.

With one roundabout completed, work is beginning on the Glendon Court and Emerald Parkway roundabout; access will be restricted at the intersection, Hammersmith said.

The improvements that began last year should wrap up within the next few months, he said.

"It's supposed to be done the first week of August," Hammersmith said. "We're expecting it to be completed before the end of July. The weather has been good."

Dublin City Council members last week awarded a $4.3-million contract to Stawser Paving Co. for the annual street maintenance program.

Asphalt will be replaced and other improvements are planned this summer on Avery-Muirfield Drive between Shier-Rings Road and Post Road, Frantz Road between Metro Place North and Bridge Street, Post Road from Interstate 270 and Frantz Road, Rings Road between Parkwood Place and Frantz Road, Emerald Parkway between Rings Road and Innovation Drive, Eiterman Road from Shier-Rings Road to the Nestle Company, Shier-Rings Road between Eiterman and Avery roads, Dublin Center Drive, Sells Mill Drive, Fallen Timbers Drive, Arapahoe Place, Erie Court, Blackhawk Court, Ottawa Place, Mesquite Court and Myrtlestone Street.

The Campden Lakes, Avery Road and Indian Run Meadows shared-use paths will also be improved this summer.

The best way to keep up on construction and road closures is to sign up for Dublin e-news, follow the city on Twitter or look on the city's website, Hammersmith said.

Residents affected by street maintenance will be notified by brochure, temporary signs or message board.
