Mike and Chris Close have been named grand marshals for Dublin's 2013 Independence Day Celebration because of their many contributions to the community.

Mike and Chris Close will lead 2013 Independence Day festivities in Dublin as grand marshals.

The former Dublin mayor and his wife have been involved as members of the Dublin community for nearly 35 years and will be recognized for their contributions to the community with the grand marshal designation.

Mrs. Close, a Dublin real estate agent, has held leadership positions with the Dublin Chamber of Commerce, Dublin Visitors and Convention Bureau, Leadership Dublin, Dublin Counseling Center, Dublin A.M. Rotary and Dublin Foundation.

Mr. Close, a managing partner and trial attorney, is incoming president of the Dublin A.M. Rotary and president of the Franklin County Veterans Service Commission. He has also held board positions with the DCVB and Dublin Chamber of Commerce.

As grand marshals, the Closes will help judge Independence Day parade floats, lead the parade and judge the table decorating contest in the evening.

This year's Independence Day celebration, themed "Color My World ... Red, White and Blue," will include a parade, evening concert featuring Chicago and fireworks.
