Gambling and charity will unite June 7 for Aces High! Winning for Kids.
The annual Dublin AM Rotary fundraiser slated for 6-10 p.m. June 7 at the Dublin Crowne Plaza, 600 Metro Place North, will offer casino games, raffles, auctions and other entertainment while raising money for charities.
"It's a casino night," said Paul Buchanan, event chairman. "It's all for fun and charity.
"Everyone is given play money when they come in and they play with that," Buchanan said.
"They shoot craps or play black jack or Texas hold 'em. The chips they win are used to buy raffle tickets."
Food, music, a cash bar and a dance demonstration from Fred Astaire Dance Studio Columbus Northwest are also on tap for the evening, but Buchanan said the auctions are a draw.
"We have a silent auction for some higher-end items and then a live auction which is generally five items," he said.
"There's a trip to Cabo San Lucas for up to three couple (and) a week on Kelley's Island for up to seven couples."
One of the coveted auction items is a dinner for eight cooked by Chef Hartmut Handke in his Dublin home. The menu includes black sesame seed-crusted and sauteed diver scallops, braised duck leg and a chocolate cake with ganache center.
"That has gone for a lot in previous years," Buchanan said.
Aces High is Dublin AM Rotary's biggest fundraiser.
"(Proceeds) go to several projects," Buchanan said. "The majority of funds go to children and families in this community."
The Dublin AM Rotary gives out scholarships to Dublin high school seniors and supports the Dublin Robotics team, which saw its highest number of teams this year, Buchanan said.
"It's amazing what they learn in terms of working as a team, integrity and problem solving," he said. "It's really tremendous to watch."
The event has also funded the Dublin Miracle League program, water wells in Africa and LN-4 prosthetic hands for people in Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Rwanda and Haiti.
The event expects 200 to 300 and it will include people outside the rotary.
"We get people from all over the community," Buchanan said. "Obviously the core is the rotary club.
"We all invite friends and business associates. There are a lot of movers and shakers in this area and people interested in giving back to the community."
Tickets for Aces High! Winning for Kids are $35 and can be purchased at the door or online at dublinrotaryfound-ation.eventbrite.com.
