Arthritis Foundation car show is July 12-13 in Dublin
Organizers are hoping to break the $200,000 barrier at this year's Arthritis Foundation Classic Auto Show and Cruise-in.
The annual fundraiser for the Arthritis Foundation slated for July 12-13 at Dublin Metro Center raised $182,000 last year with proceeds benefiting various foundation programs.
"(Proceeds) go into our general fund, which funds all of our programs, research, education and advocacy," said Stephanie Perry, auto show director.
"All money from the car show is used for various programs, pain management programs like Tai Chi and water aerobics," Perry said, adding programs for children with arthritis are also funded.
In its 31st year, the classic auto show and cruise-in is expected to draw people and cars from throughout Ohio and the country.
"Some of the cars are pretty rare," Perry said. "We're honoring Buick this year and there are tons of different Buicks."
"Enthusiasts will come from all over," Perry said. "Last year we had people from 14 states and Canada. I'm sure we'll see similar stats this year. It is a regional show and we do draw people from a number of places."
The event will kick off Thurs-day, July 11, with the return of the Rolling Legends Tour.
Participants will depart from Metro Center at 10 a.m. and head to the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington.
The Rolling Legends Tour was started last year and Perry said it will have twice as many participants this year.
At the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, visitors will get to check out the facility and be part of a parade around the course.
"We've been working with them for a few years and thought that would be a natural attraction for people who want to go on the tour," Perry said.
Friday, July 12, 1,500 cars and motorcycles will compete for 100 trophies starting at 10 a.m. at Dublin's Metro Center.
The Van-Dells will perform at 7:30 p.m. and awards will be handed out at 8:30 p.m.
The Classic Auto Show from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. July 13 is expected to bring in more than 1,200 classic and collector cars as the event celebrates the 60th anniversary of the Chevrolet Corvette and the 50th anniversaries of the Buick Riviera and Lamborghini.
Performances from Johnny and the Revelators, and Phil Dirt and the Dozers are slated for 1-3 p.m. and 6:30-9:30 p.m. respectively July 13. Awards will be presented at 5:30 p.m.
"We'll have an original hotrod Lincoln, the Presidents Cup trophy and also the Ohio Wheelmen, an historic bicycle troop. It's the precursor to the automobile."
The Rolling Legends Tour is $25 and admission into the car show and cruise-in is $10.
