Four St. Brigid of Kildare students recently received scholarships to attend St. Charles Preparatory School.

Jacob McCorkle was one of 17 recipients of a $5,000 per year, four-year scholarship. Winners of one-year, $1,500 scholarships were Benjamin Burger, Cameron Hawthorne and Keaton Maisano.

These scholarships are awarded to incoming freshmen based on their performance on St. Charles' annual scholarship exam. Criteria also include a second standardized test and the students' eighth-grade grades.

The JP Morgan Chase Foundation and New Albany Community Foundation sponsored the 2013 Central Ohio Leadership Academy, a leadership development experience for rising high school seniors, this summer on the Ohio State University campus.

Among the participants were Dublin Coffman High School students William Maynard and Wissam Osman and Jerome High School's Shweta Ambwani, Jaclyn Chu, Camila Kowalski and Sharonya Vadakattu.

Students who complete the six-day course receive two college credits from the Ohio State University.

COLA cultivates leadership, creativity, ethical decision making, self-reflection and relationship building among the participants. Students develop leadership skills by participating in professionally facilitated training sessions, interactive team challenges and discussions with peers and community leaders.

Student learning is guided by an instructional collaborative that includes educators from OSU's Fisher College of Business as well as community leaders from across central Ohio.
