From the superintendent's desk
New year in a new school district is an exciting time
I would like to welcome the members of our community to the 2013-14 school year which begins Wednesday, Aug. 21.
I am excited to begin my tenure as the superintendent of the Dublin City School District.
My family and I have settled in the community and three of my four children will be enrolled in the district.
My oldest will begin her freshman year at Ohio State University this fall. We look forward to becoming part of the fabric of this community and to meeting many of you as we begin this new journey together.
I have already communicated with staff the three tenets of my superintendency will be "collaboration," "appreciation," and "trust."
These three concepts are the foundation of my vision of servant leadership.
We are in the process of scheduling coffee events in the community to provide you with the opportunity to meet me in an informal setting. Dates and locations of these events will be communicated in the near future.
It has been a busy and exciting summer in our District. Our staff has been hard at work preparing for the 2013-14 school year.
More than 400 teachers volunteered their time for the district's Leadership Academy earlier this month.
Other staff spent their summer working on various building projects throughout the district, including the renovation of the Dublin Coffman High School cafeteria, replacement of the original carpet floor with tile at Dublin Scioto High School, and a reformatting of Riverside Elementary School's traffic pattern at drop-off and pick-up times.
The preparation of our staff will serve our students well as we begin school.
Below is some practical information to help get your school year started. I look forward to seeing you at school events this fall.
There are NO changes to our bell schedules this year.

District calendar and calamity days
The 2013-14 calendar and upcoming back to school dates at your building are available on the district's website, www.dublinschools.net.
If weather or building wide emergencies close schools, we will again be utilizing our automated calling system to contact parents.
All parents' primary phone numbers begin the school year in the system. If you wish to add additional phone numbers to your account, call 1-800-846-4976 and follow the prompts to receive your account information including your PIN.
This call must be made from your primary number the district has on file.
Once you have received your PIN, you can access the system online at www.prek12 notification.com to manage your account.
The District's web site continues to be a vital source of information for the community.
There you can find the latest news, our Twitter feed, Facebook page, the latest edition of our television show, Dublin City Schools Today, and all of the day-to-day information you need to stay connected.
I would encourage you to subscribe to the district's free email news updates by visiting our web site.
Parents and community members can receive email news updates from the district, individual school buildings, middle school teams, and select departments via this service.
The district's online Parent Dashboard is a valuable resource to parents and serves as a one-stop online center for school information parents need on a daily basis.
