Encounter Church has a new location after 41/2 years of meeting in Pinney Elementary School.
The church, lead by Pastor Sean Spoelstra, worked out a partnership that has landed the congregation in Radiant Life Church's activities building at 7055 Avery Road.
"(Radiant Life) Pastor Dave Gross and I have been friends for a better part of five years," Spoelstra said.
"We're not competitors. To me, this is one of the greatest, tangible things for him to let us use this building."
Radiant Life Church meets for services at a newer building at 7100 Post Road and uses the activity building for day care during the week.
Spoelstra said Encounter Church will use the Avery Road building on Thursday evenings, for some Saturday events and all 10 a.m. Sunday services.
"We're not competitors," he said. "We see each other as partners in Christ."
Encounter Church began having services at the activities building in July and has slated a celebration for the new location for Sept. 8 after the 10 a.m. service.
"After the service we'll have a barbeque move-in celebration," Spoelstra said, adding the public is welcome.
Hot dogs, snow cones, cotton candy, face-painting, inflatable games and other activities are on tap for the celebration.
Encounter Church is a plant from Powell's Grace Church and Spoelstra said the first service was held at Pinney Elementary in early 2009.
The church now draws between 150 and 200 people each Sunday, and has done work in the community and internationally, including work recently with Welcome Warehouse.
