National Alliance on Mental Illness, art exhibit and reception featuring the creative works of people living with a mental illness, 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 15 in Room 165 at the Delaware County Board of Disabilities, 7991 Columbus Pike, Lewis Center. This free exhibit is open to the public. Sculpture, painting, photography, music, poetry and crafts will be featured. Refreshments will be available. The evening will culminate with an address by M. Christ Child Society of Columbus, annual Red Wagon Fare luncheon, 10:30 a.m. Oct. 16, at the Villa Milano Banquet and Conference Center, 1630 Schrock Road. The event features a luncheon, a boutique of vendors from Central Ohio, Christ Child Society sweets, baked goods and crafts, as well as a style show provided by Chico's from the Shops at Worthington Place and Belles and Beaux Children's Boutique. Proceeds support the projects of the Christ Child Society. This year, Project Starfish, a tuition assistance program for the Christ Child-Child Care Center at St. Stephens Community House will be the focus of the event.
The City of Dublin Halloween Spooktacular, 3:30 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 24, at the Dublin Community Recreation Center, 5600 Post Road. The free event features a Haunted Trail, Trunk or Treat Trail, demonstrations from The Turtle Lady and Bug Man, a professional pumpkin carver, crafts, music and a hay maze. There also is a Monster Mash Dance for Dublin middle school students from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Columbus Medical Association Alliance, A VIP Party fundraiser, 10 a.m. Nov. 6, at Scioto Country Club, 2196 Riverside Dr. Shelley Meyer, wife of Ohio State University football coach Urban Meyer, is scheduled to speak. Activities include a silent auction, boutique of vendors, bake sale, raffle, style show and luncheon. Cost is $50 per person. All proceeds benefit the Medical & Nursing Student Scholarship Fund. Central Ohio Branch of International Dyslexia Association, workshop on "Reading and Writing Difficulties in Children: Understanding Dysl-exia, 7 to 9 p.m. Oct. 17 at the Dublin Recreation Center, 5600 Post Road. Presentation of a documentary will be shown, followed by a question and answer discussion with a panel of dyslexia specialists. Information and resources for parents of any student who is struggling with reading, spelling or writing difficulties will be available.
Crosswoods Pediatrics, Walk with a Doc program, 10 a.m. every Thursday at Coffman Park, 5568 Emerald Parkway. Meet at Coffman Pavilion. The walks are free for anyone interested in taking steps to improve their health. A doctor will be on hand to answer any questions and talk with people during the event. The author is the great-great-great grandson of John Sells, the founder of Dublin. The meeting is open to the community.
