Pinney Elementary School held a writing contest for fourth-graders and this week honored winners with a ceremony.

With no PROUD Writing contest for students to participate in this year, teachers contacted contest organizer Linda Forte-Spearing about running a competition at the school for fourth graders for the first time.

Students submitted entries in poetry, fiction and personal narrative for the contest.

Like won the fiction contest for his story "Secret Slave," Letizia won first place for his personal narrative on surviving a tornado and Solace's poem "Air" took first place as well.
