Two Vietnam veterans will speak at Dublin's Memorial Day ceremony May 26.

The ceremony, arranged by Dublin's Wesley G. Davids American Legion Post 800 will commemorate Memorial Day starting at 11 a.m. May 26.

"We'll step off at 11 a.m.," said American Legion Post 800 Commander Jeff Noble.

"The Jerome High School marching band is with us this year," Noble said.

"We'll march to the bridge from Dale Drive and Riverside, do a wreath ceremony at the bridge and then march to the cemetery."

At 11:30 a.m. Dublin Cemetery will host the Memorial Day ceremony where Vietnam veteran Ed Erfurt will speak, Noble said.

"Then everybody moves to the Grounds of Remembrance," Noble said.

"The keynote speaker is Dennis Tomcik. He's also a Vietnam (veteran)."

Tomcik, a Dublin resident, was recently inducted into the Ohio Military Hall of Fame for Valor.

During his service in Vietnam, Tomcik earned two Distinguished Service Crosses for Valor awards.

"They don't just grow on trees," Noble said of the speakers chosen to speak at Memorial Day events.

"I grab them when I can."

Dublin students the American Legion Post 800 will sponsor at Buckeye Boys and Girls State will also speak during Memorial Day ceremonies.

After the noon ceremony at the Grounds of Remembrance in Dublin Veterans Park, a complimentary picnic lunch will be held at 12:45 p.m. on the grounds of the Dublin branch library, 75 N. High St.

The Dublin American Legion Post 800 will also lead a ceremony at 10 a.m. May 26 in Jerome Township at the cemetery across Jerome Road from the Jerome United Methodist Church in Plain City.

"The Jerome Township (event) is a little smaller, but they welcome us every year," Noble said.

Dublin Boy Scouts will also help the Dublin American Legion Post prepare Saturday, May 24, for Memorial Day ceremonies.

"From 9 to 9:30 a.m. the Boy Scouts will decorate the cemetery and we'll do a flag ceremony with them," Noble said.
