Volunteers are still being sought for Dublin's annual Independence Day Celebration.
The July 4 event -- which begins with the Sherm Sheldon Fishing Derby at the Dublin Community Recreation Center at 8 a.m., continues with a parade at 11 a.m. and ends with a concert featuring Earth, Wind & Fire in the Dublin Coffman High School stadium -- operates with the help of community volunteers.
"It's a great way to celebrate the holiday," said Christine Nardecchia, Dublin's volunteer coordinator.
"The volunteer team gathers at a table at the end of the evening to watch the fireworks together," Nardecchia said.
"It's wonderful to see them high five each other and thank one another for a job well done.
"Community pride meets patriotic pride."
With the holiday falling on a Friday, Dublin is expecting large crowds and is hoping to find more volunteers to help at the evening concert with shifts from 4 to 7 p.m. and 6:45 to 9:45 p.m.
