Excitement is growing as we near the start of the 2014-2015 school year.

Our faculty and staff are busy preparing as we will soon welcome our students back for another school year.

I recently finished up my first year as the superintendent of Dublin City Schools.

As I reflect upon the past year, one thing is clear, excellent schools are extremely important to our residents and the value that our community places upon education is unmatched.

Every day, our teachers and staff work hard to meet these high expectations so our students are academically challenged, emotionally supported and prepared for success at the next level.

Dublin schools are a major reason why people chose to live in this community and why businesses choose to locate here.

This is what make us unique and is part of the "Dublin Difference."

So what is the Dublin Difference?

The Dublin Difference is a well-rounded education that develops not only a child's mind, but also a child's heart.

The Dublin Difference is also a commitment by our faculty to world-class instruction, making sure all of our students are college and career ready.

Here are just a few ways we attempt to create the Dublin Difference:

* World Class; Well-rounded Experiences.

In Dublin schools, we provide opportunities for students to excel in teamwork and outside of the classroom experiences.

Our students participate in a well-rounded selection of opportunities in the fine arts, clubs, activities and athletics. These activities provide enrichment and skills to a student's educational experience.

* Technology.

We provide students with a comprehensive, hands-on use of technology.

Our faculty continually seek ways to provide a cutting edge combination of traditional and technology based instruction in order to broaden course offerings and maximize taxpayer dollars.

* Academic Accountability.

We must remain accountable, both academically and financially, and one important measure is the annual state report card.

Even though the measurements have changed in recent years, residents will be pleased to know that our District will again receive top results on this report card.

We continue to progress in many areas and we also realize there is room for improvement.

In addition to the ratings, the report card provides us with important data on our students. We welcome this data as it helps us serve students in particular academic areas and within buildings.

While we are focused on academic excellence, standardized tests are a small portion of how we measure success at Dublin city schools.

This fall, we will be developing and distributing a "Quality Profile" designed to provide members of our community with a more inclusive picture of what Dublin City Schools offers our students.

* Financial Efficiency.

We take enormous pride in offering excellent fiscal stewardship. Year after year, we have earned industry awards for excellence in financial reporting.

At the same time, we know there is always room for improvement and innovation. Treasurer Steve Osborne is always willing to provide highlights of what Dublin is doing to be operationally efficient and comprehensive financial reports are available on our web site.

In closing, I thank you for supporting our schools, our students and excellence in education.

I am thrilled to be a part of the Dublin community. I also look forward to hearing about what the Dublin Difference means to you personally.
