When Lindsay Agnew of the Dublin Jerome High School girls soccer team is asked about her play, she quickly deflects the attention to her teammates.

The junior forward realizes a team relies on its entire roster to be successful. However, it is difficult not to notice Agnew when she’s on the field.

Agnew had 21 goals and 18 assists in 21 games after the Celtics defeated Dublin Coffman 1-0 in a Division I regional final Nov. 5. She was named OCC-Cardinal Division and district Player of the Year. In addition, she has been named captain of the Super 12 team.

“I have to thank my teammates for all this recognition because without my midfielders feeding me the ball, I would be nothing,” Agnew said.

“Lindsay is the rare combination of really everything you’d want in a complete player,” first-year Celtics coach Josh Brader said. “She is a leader and she is a hard-working kid. She has speed, she has skill, she has height (5-foot-9) and she has a little bit of the attitude that you need to be a top player.”

Jerome was ranked fourth in the final state poll.

“We’re so happy that we’ve turned things around for Jerome,” said Agnew, whose team finished 10-6-3 last season after losing to Olentangy Liberty 2-1 in a district semifinal. “Everyone on the team is close and the coaching staff is great. It’s really been a fun year and, obviously, winning is fun.”

Agnew, who will play at Ohio State, is one of six Jerome players to commit to a Division I college.

“It’s awesome to know that every day they’re going to push you hard and you’re going to push them hard,” Agnew said of her teammates.

Agnew, who has a 4.05 grade-point average, missed most of last season with a broken right arm, an injury that was sustained when she was struck by the ball during a game. As a freshman, she saw time on varsity and junior varsity.

Like many players, Agnew credits her year-round parti-cipation in the sport for her success.

“I’ve always loved soccer and soccer has always been my favorite,” she said. “I’ve played other sports, but nothing has ever compared.”
