Four Scioto players to play in college
Four members of the Dublin Scioto High School boys soccer team will continue their careers at the college level.
Seniors Cheick Diawara, Brandon Gaunt, Ryan Gibson and Kevin McMahon were recognized Feb. 6 during a ceremony at the school.
Diawara, a midfielder, signed with Wright State, a Division I school. Last season, he was OCC-Cardinal Division and district Player of the Year as well as first-team all-state. He also made ThisWeek’s Super 12 team.
Gaunt, a defender who made second-team all-league last fall, has committed Mount Vernon Nazarene, an NAIA school.
Gibson, a forward who was first-team all-league and second-team all-district last fall and finished his prep career with 42 goals and 16 assists, signed with Lake Erie College, a Division II school in Painesville.
McMahon, a forward who was first-team all-league and third-team all-district last season with 15 goals and 16 assists and finished his prep career with 27 goals and 35 assists, signed with Ohio Dominican, a Division II school.
Last season, Scioto was ranked first in the final regular-season Division I state poll. The Irish lost to Dublin Coffman 2-1 in a district tournament final to finish 18-1.
