Coffman girls team surging over past month

After losing to Hilliard Davidson 42-20 on Dec. 9, the Dublin Coffman High School girls basketball team was on an eight-game winning streak before playing Olentangy Liberty on Jan. 8. The Shamrocks were 5-1 in the OCC-Central Division entering the Liberty game and visit Upper Arlington on Friday, Jan. 11.

Last season, the Shamrocks went 13-1 in the league to win the title ahead of UA (12-2). They beat UA twice, 39-38 and 54-43.

Coffman defeated Westland 52-36 on Jan. 4 and Toledo Waite 73-37 on Jan. 5.

Against Westland, Kamerine Taylor scored 16 points and Griffin Tullis scored 13.

Against Waite, Sade Olatoye scored 17 points and Quynh Vo scored 16.

Scioto girls entered week on win streak

Entering its Jan. 8 contest at Bradley, the girls team had won four in a row, with victories over Delaware (55-35 on Jan. 5), Hilliard Darby (50-42 on Jan. 4), Westland (55-42 on Dec. 28) and Westerville South (59-52 on Dec. 22).

Senior guard Anna Buhigas was averaging about 15 points per game.

Entering play this week, Scioto was among three teams in the OCC-Cardinal at 4-2, behind league-leader Westerville North (6-0).

Coffman boys in thick of league race

The Coffman boys team entered the week looking to maintain its lead in the OCC-Central.

The Shamrocks were 5-0 in the league before playing Olentangy Liberty on Jan. 8 and play host to Upper Arlington on Friday, Jan. 11.

The Golden Bears were 4-1 in the league before playing Westland on Jan. 8.

Last season, Coffman tied Thomas Worthington for second (9-5) in the league behind UA (12-2).

Coffman and UA split their games a year ago, with the Shamrocks winning 51-49 and the Bears winning 68-58.

Coffman defeated Westland 70-64 on Jan. 4 as Jason Hall and Josh Morrow each scored 13 points and Nate Axelrod and Hayden Dygert each scored 10.

Before playing Liberty, the Shamrocks' lone loss came against host Perrysburg 82-57 on Dec. 29. Kevin Marsh scored 18 points and Axelrod scored 15.

Jerome girls playing well

The Jerome girls team had won six of seven games before playing Fairfield Union on Jan. 7.

The Celtics entered their Jan. 8 game against Westerville South tied with Scioto and Hilliard Bradley for second in the OCC-Cardinal at 4-2, behind Westerville North (6-0).

Jerome defeated Scioto 51-48 on Dec. 21 as Hannah Gibbs led with 17 points, Sarah Auker had 14 and Katherine McCoy added 10.

The Celtics lost to Centennial 45-44 on Dec. 27 in the Watterson Christmas Classic as McCoy had 14 points and Gibbs added 11. A day later, they defeated Watterson 32-27 as Madison Watson scored nine points and Gibbs added eight.

In an OCC-Cardinal game Jan. 4, Jerome beat Worthington Kilbourne 54-40 while making 14 of 15 free throws. Gibbs scored 16 points and went 6-for-6 from the foul line, and Auker had 15 points and was 5-for-5 at the line. Watson scored eight points and Andrea Davidson had six.

Jerome boys team struggling

The Jerome boys team had lost three of its last four games before playing Westerville South in an OCC-Cardinal contest Jan. 8.

The Celtics lost to Scioto 63-33 in a league game Dec. 21 as Kyle Christman scored 10 points and Matt Holden and Seve Stavroff added eight points apiece.

Jerome defeated Jonathan Alder 45-39 on Dec. 27 as Christman scored 14 points and Matt Holden and Austin Sherman added eight points each.

The Celtics lost to Delaware 53-48 on Dec. 29 as Christman scored 16 points and Connor Kerns added 12.

On Jan. 4, the Celtics fell to Worthington Kilbourne 57-41 in a league game. Christman scored 13 points and Mason Baich added nine.
