Coffman wins pair to reach Blue Jackets Cup

The Dublin Coffman High School hockey team won its final two Capital Hockey Conference games last weekend to qualify for the championship bracket of the Blue Jackets Cup tournament.

Seeded fourth, the Shamrocks open against fifth-seeded Olentangy Orange on Thursday, Feb. 7, at Chiller Dublin. The Cup tournament runs through Sunday, Feb. 10, at Chiller Dublin and OhioHealth Ice Haus.

Coffman defeated Worthington Kilbourne 5-3 on Feb. 1 and Gahanna 3-0 on Feb. 3 to improve to 15-14 overall and finish fourth in the CHC-Red Division at 10-7 (20 points), behind Olentangy Liberty (15-0-1-1, 32), Jerome (13-2-2, 28) and Cincinnati Moeller (11-5-0-1, 23) and ahead of Upper Arlington (7-8-1-1, 16).

The top four teams in the CHC-Red qualified for the championship bracket of the Cup tournament. UA is participating in the consolation bracket.

Against Kilbourne, forwards Ian Flinders, Chris DiBiase, Matt King and J.T. Latshaw and defenseman Thomas Tate scored and goaltender Cody Laux had 13 saves.

Celtics to face DeSales in Cup opener

Jerome also went 2-0 in the CHC last weekend, beating Gahanna 5-0 on Feb. 1 and Kilbourne 8-0 on Feb. 3, to improve to 21-8-3 overall.

The Celtics earned the second seed for the championship bracket of the Blue Jackets Cup tournament.

The Celtics will face seventh-seeded DeSales in the opening round Thursday, Feb. 7, at Chiller Dublin.

Forward James Eastep had two goals, forwards Daniel Dodson and Lucas Brush and defenseman Luke Potter each scored one and goalie Shawn Ewert had 13 saves against Gahanna.

Against Kilbourne, forward Chase Rose had two goals, Brusch, Eastep, forwards Jeff Davison, Chris Cathis and Alex Cathis and defenseman Sam Franklin each scored one and goalie Connor Willette had 10 saves.

Irish playing in Cup consolation tourney

Scioto will compete in the consolation bracket of the Blue Jackets Cup tournament.

Seeded 14th, the Irish will face 11th-seeded Kilbourne in the first round Friday, Feb. 8, at Chiller Dublin.

The winner faces 10th-seeded Thomas Worthington in a semifinal Saturday, Feb. 9, at the Ice Haus. Also in the consolation bracket are ninth-seeded UA, 12th-seeded Watterson and 13th-seeded Olentangy.

The Irish, who finished 0-17 in the CHC-Blue, beat Kettering Alter 3-2 on Feb. 3 to snap a five-game losing streak. Forward Zach Vallette had two goals, defenseman Scott Carter scored one and goalie Christian Rice had 29 saves.
