The Dublin Coffman and Jerome high school boys basketball teams will meet for the first time when they open the Division I district tournament at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, at Coffman.
The seventh-seeded Shamrocks are 16-4 overall and went 12-2 in the OCC-Central Division to finish second behind Olentangy Liberty (13-1).
The 32nd-seeded Celtics were 6-14 overall and 4-9 in the OCC-Cardinal before playing league champion Westerville North on Feb. 19.
"I think we're ready for the tournament," Coffman coach Jamey Collins said. "(Our players) like to play, so I can't imagine that they wouldn't be, but you never know."
The Coffman-Jerome winner plays at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, against 16th-seeded Grove City or 33rd-seeded Hilliard Davidson in the second round at the home of the better seed.
Grove City is 14-8 and Davidson is 5-17. Neither team has played Jerome this season, but in OCC-Central play, Coffman defeated Davidson 62-46 on Dec. 7 and 73-50 on Jan. 18.
The second-round winner plays fifth-seeded Dublin Scioto, 10th-seeded Pickerington Central or 14th-seeded Delaware at 8 p.m. March 6 in a district semifinal at Pickerington North.
Coffman finished the regular season by defeating host Upper Arlington 62-53 on Feb. 15 as forward Jason Hall and guard Josh Morrow each scored 16 points.
Jerome defeated visiting Westerville Central 56-53 on Feb. 15. Senior post player Kyle Christman had 20 points with four 3-pointers and freshman guard Mason Baich scored 14 points.
Christman scored 13 points in a 43-38 win over visiting Granville on Feb. 12. Baich and junior forward Connor Kerns both added nine points.
