The Dublin Coffman High School gymnastics team qualified for the state meet for the second year in a row.
The Shamrocks scored 138.925 points in the district meet Feb. 23 to place second of 24 teams, behind host Worthington Kilbourne (140.625) and ahead of third-place Thomas Worthington (136.125).
Jerome (128.45) placed 11th and Scioto (107.15) finished 21st, as the top three teams earned a berth in the team state meet Friday, March 1, at Hilliard Bradley and the top nine finishers in each event and the all-around qualified for the individual state meet Saturday, March 2, at Bradley.
Coffman placed seventh (136.825) at state last season, behind champion Brecksville-Broadview Heights (148.0).
Freshman Shannon Downie led the way for the Shamrocks at district, placing third on uneven bars (8.85) and winning the ninth-place tiebreaker on the floor exercise (8.825). She just missed advancing in the all-around (34.975, 10th) and vault (8.875, 11th).
Also qualifying for state were senior Meigan Way on floor (9.1, third), junior Claire Edwards on vault (9.175, tied for fifth) and bars (8.65, tied for ninth but won tiebreaker) and sophomore Nicole Fusco on balance beam (8.95, eighth).
Edwards just missed qualifying in the all-around (34.825, 11th) and Fusco narrowly missed advancing on bars (8.625, 10th) and in the all-around (34.7, 12th).
Jerome and Scioto did not have any state qualifiers.
The Celtics were led by freshman Maddy Haab, who tied for 25th in the all-around (33.2), and sophomore Marisa Mangini, who tied for 17th on floor (8.725). Junior Monica Xu led the Irish, finishing 56th in the all-around (29.85).
