Celtics reach district final for third consecutive year

The Dublin Jerome High School hockey team has advanced to the district final for the third consecutive season.

The third-seeded Celtics (27-8-3) will face top-seeded Olentangy Liberty (25-5-5-1) at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, March 2, at OhioHealth Ice Haus, with the winner advancing to a state semifinal against defending state champion Sylvania Northview or Toledo St. John's on March 8 at Nationwide Arena.

Jerome is seeking its first district championship. The Celtics' first two district final appearances ended in defeat, as they lost to Liberty 3-2 in double overtime in 2011 and lost to Olentangy Orange 3-2 in quadruple overtime last season.

Jerome and Liberty faced each other twice during the regular season, with the teams tying at 2 on Jan. 12 and the Patriots winning 4-2 on Jan. 27.

The Celtics reached the district final by beating second-seeded Orange 2-1 in a semifinal Feb. 24 at the Ice Haus. Forwards James Eastep and Alex Cathis each had a goal and goaltender Connor Willette had 22 saves.

Jerome defeated 10th-seeded DeSales 5-0 in the third round Feb. 23 at the Ice Haus, as forward Chris Cathis had two goals, Alex Cathis and forwards Zach Moore and Coleman Mitchell each scored one and goalie Shawn Ewert had 19 saves.

Seventh-seeded Coffman lost to Orange 3-2 in the third round Feb. 23 at the Ice Haus to finish 16-16. Forwards Chris DiBiase and Jason Strine each had a goal and goalie Grant Powell had 19 saves.
