Clark selected to lead Scioto girls
Jen Clark has been named coach of the Scioto girls team, replacing Matt Fisher.
Clark spent the past three seasons as an assistant coach at Reynoldsburg under coach Jack Purtell. Prior to that, she was the head coach at Olentangy Liberty for four seasons, compiling a 32-51 record from 2006-2010.
"Reynoldsburg has been at the highest level of high school girls basketball in the state of Ohio the past three seasons," Magistrale said. "Jack Purtell speaks highly of what Jen brought to their staff. We feel very fortunate to have Jen Clark leading the Dublin Scioto girls basketball program."
This past season, Reynoldsburg was ranked fifth in the final Division I state poll and went 24-4, losing to North Canton Hoover 51-48 in a regional semifinal. The Raiders were a state semifinalist in the 2011-12 season.
"Being at Reynoldsburg really made me a better coach and I'm going to bring that experience with me," Clark said. "I know that Scioto has had success in the past and we want to continue as a competitive program."
Clark takes over a program that went 45-23 in three seasons under Fisher, who resigned in April. This past season, the Irish finished 17-8 overall, went 9-5 in the OCC-Cardinal to tie Jerome for second behind Westerville North (14-0) and lost to Gahanna 49-38 in a Division I district semifinal.
Scioto lost five players to graduation, including its leading scorer in Anna Buhigas, who averaged 15.5 points, 5.6 rebounds and five assists and was third-team all-district and first-team all-league.
Among the players expected to return are forwards Alex Mielke and Rachel Willis and guards Abbie Moore and Camille McLean. Last season, Mielke averaged 9.0 points and McLean average 6.9.
"We've got some athleticism in not only some of the girls returning, but also the kids coming up," Clark said. "Some of the young kids could contribute this season, so the future looks bright."
