Four members of the Dublin Coffman High School girls tennis team have qualified for the Division I district tournament Friday, Oct. 11, and Saturday, Oct. 12, at Hilliard Davidson.
Competing in the sectional Oct. 3 and 5 at Pickerington Central, the doubles team of Amber Lee and Ashley Tan went 3-1 and placed second, Krissi Tzagournis went 4-1 and placed third in singles and Victoria Fan went 4-2 and finished fourth in singles.
Tzagournis defeated Fan 7-6, 6-0 in the third-place match.
The top four finishers in singles and doubles from each sectional advanced to district.
Seeded second at sectional, Lee and Tan lost to the top seed, Pickerington Central's Kyah Thomas and Isis Thomas, 6-4, 6-4 in the final.
"(Lee and Tan) played a tough match and will learn from their mistakes and head into district knowing what they need to do," coach Brett Hundertpfund said. "I am very excited because they keep getting better each match they play."
Tzagournis beat the third seed, Pickerington Central's Nikkia Thompson, 6-1, 6-3 in a district-qualifying match.
"It was a very intense match," Hundertpfund said. "Both coaches were on the court to officiate, the crowd was cheering after every point and weather interrupted play for a half hour. Krissi played incredibly well. She remained cool under pressure and came up with some really big shots on important points."
Fan defeated the top seed, Westerville Central's Nicole Cardwell, 6-3, 6-2 in a district-qualifying match.
"Victoria Fan, a freshman, showed a tremendous amount of both physical endurance and mental toughness during the tournament," Hundertpfund said.
The top four finishers in singles and doubles at district will advance to state Oct. 18 at Ohio State and Oct. 19 at Davidson.
Also at sectional, the doubles team of Jessica Flynn and Annie Yang went 2-1 and Skylar Moore went 2-1 in singles.
