The Dublin Jerome High School boys cross country team heads into the Division I regional meet Saturday, Oct. 26, at Pickerington North coming off a dominating performance at district.
The Celtics cruised to a district title Oct. 19 at Watkins Memorial, as they had the top four finishers in the district 2 meet and tallied 23 points to finish well ahead of runner-up Coffman (75) as 14 teams scored.
Jake Mandel won the race in 16 minutes, 3.81 seconds, with Mitchell Leitch (second, 16:06.97), Bradley Davis (third, 16:16.43) and Chase Stewart (fourth, 16:18.12) also crossing the finish line before any runner from the other 14 teams represented in the meet.
Also scoring for the Celtics was Brian King (13th, 16:51.49).
The top five teams and top 20 individuals in the boys and girls district 1 and 2 meets and the top six teams and top 24 individuals in district 3 advanced to regional. The top four teams and top 16 individuals at regional qualify for the state meet Nov. 2 at National Trail Raceway.
Led by Carly Davis, the Jerome girls team finished second (112) in district 3 behind Upper Arlington (64) as 17 teams scored.
Davis won the district title in 18:58.09. Also scoring were Tiffany Hill (16th, 20:01.41), Brittney Barberick (21st, 20:10.26), Erin McAuliffe (24th, 20:21) and Catey Midla (50th, 21:17.5).
Coffman boys, girls qualify for regional
Coffman will be represented by both of its teams at regional.
Led by Zach Bons, the boys team placed second to Jerome in district 2. Bons placed seventh (16:30.57), with Steve Riley-Popovic (10th, 16:41.74), John Graf (12th, 16:49.23), Simon Alford (16th, 16:57.54) and Tommy Alford (30th, 17:18.86) also scoring for the Shamrocks.
The girls team finished sixth (148) in district 3.
Sana Qamar led the Shamrocks, placing seventh in 19:27.91.
Also scoring were Emily Lynch (30th, 20:46.59), Saydi Mangelson (32nd, 20:53.39), Piper Hayward (34th, 20:54.45) and Anna Weber (45th, 21:10.28).
Scioto girls advance to regional meet
The Scioto girls team qualified for regional by finishing second (78) in district 2 behind Gahanna (39) as 14 teams scored.
The Irish were led by Shayla Wigand, who placed eighth (19:43.77). Also scoring were Rebecca Groh (ninth, 19:50.41), Vanessa Robinson (11th, 20:00.43), Brittany Hinkle (24th, 20:28.23) and Bruna Pinto (26th, 20:31.57).
The boys team finished sixth (176) in district 1 behind champion Davidson (29) as 14 teams scored. Olentangy Orange (125) secured the fifth and final regional-qualifying spot.
Dylan Languis led the Irish, placing 13th (16:51.89) to advance to regional as an individual for the second year in a row. He finished 59th (17:16.48) at regional last season.
Also scoring at district for the Irish were Kenny Mayes (34th, 17:44.78), Ahmad Abusharkh (37th, 17:51.04), Jesse Jordan (44th, 18:09.69) and Daniel Guzak (48th, 18:30.22).
