A year ago, the Dublin Coffman High School girls lacrosse team fell one win shy of equaling what is believed to be the program record for victories in a season when it went 11-8.
The Shamrocks defeated Olentangy Orange 12-11 in their regular-season finale May 10 to improve to 12-3 overall, tying the program mark for wins set in 2003.
Coffman also earned a runner-up finish in the OCC-Central Division, going 3-1 to finish behind Upper Arlington (4-0), marking their highest finish in league play.
The Shamrocks are seeded fourth in the Division I North/Central Region tournament, according to coach Michael Murphy, and faced Perrysburg in the second round May 14.
The second-round winner plays Jerome or Olentangy Liberty in a regional semifinal Monday, May 19, with the winner of that contest advancing to a regional final May 22.
Among Coffman's offensive leaders through 13 games were Kylie Kayser (43 goals), Riley Steiner (33 goals, 46 draw controls) and Kelly Murphy (21 goals, 15 assists).
Jerome opened the North/Central Region tournament by beating Orange 13-12 on May 12 to improve to 9-8.
The Celtics, who lost to Columbus Academy 15-7 on May 8, played Liberty in the second round May 14.
In an 11-10 win over Hilliard Davidson on May 6, Cameron Finnegan had four goals to lead Jerome. Kailee King added three goals and goalkeeper McKenna Russell had 10 saves.
Scioto opened the Division II South/Central Region tournament with a forfeit win over Morrow Little Miami in the first round May 12.
The Irish, who improved to 9-7, play at Cincinnati Mariemont in the second round Thursday, May 15. The second-round winner advances to a regional semifinal Tuesday, May 20, at Cincinnati Summit Country Day, Dayton Miami Valley or Dayton Chaminade Julienne. The regional final is May 22.
The Irish beat Davidson 17-10 on May 9.
Local boys teams prepping for tourney
The Coffman, Jerome and Scioto boys teams are getting set to start play in the Division I Central Region tournament.
The tournament draw is Sunday, May 18.
The Shamrocks beat Scioto 17-8 on May 10 and played Jerome on May 14 in the finale of the Emerald Cup series between the three programs. The Celtics defeated the Irish 23-2 on April 21.
Jerome beat Cincinnati Moeller 8-5 on May 9 and was 11-3 overall and 4-2 in the OCC-Buckeye before playing Coffman. The Celtics lost to Liberty 4-3 on May 7 to fall one game behind league co-leaders UA and Worthington Kilbourne.
UA was 5-1 in the OCC-Buckeye before playing Thomas Worthington on May 14 and Kilbourne was 5-1 in the league before facing Davidson on May 13.
Coffman was 4-12 overall and 1-5 in the OCC-Buckeye before playing Jerome.
Scioto lost to DeSales 12-2 on May 12 and was 6-11 overall and 1-4 in the OCC-Ohio before closing league play May 14 against Marysville.
