What was a strength throughout its surprising run to a Division I district championship ended up doing in the Gahanna Lincoln High School softball team in a 5-4 loss to Lebanon in a regional semifinal Wednesday at Ohio State's Buckeye Field.

The Lions committed five errors, with the two biggest coming in the sixth after they had rallied to take a 4-3 lead. They also had a player thrown out at home and had another runner get picked up to end rallies.

Gahanna finished 18-12. Lebanon improved to 29-3 and will play in a regional final Saturday against Grove City or Hilliard Darby. Those two teams play today.
"Each team had errors, we just didn't take as much advantage of theirs," right-fielder Paula Lindsay said. "I don't think it any of it had to do with nerves only because no one really expected us to be here."

Lebanon's first run came when Alex Machen knocked the ball loose from catcher Kayla Ledbetter in the first inning. The Lions tied it in the third when Kim Lennox singled and scored on an error -mthe first of two by the Warriors.

After Lebanon took advantage of two errors to score twice in the fourth, Lindsay reached on an error to lead off the bottom of the inning and Robin Nelson singled. Chelsie Pershing drove in both with a double to tie it at 3.

In the Lebanon half of the sixth after Bethany Campbell singled and Kim Lennox struck out the next two, Jessica Scott singled to right but the ball got past Lindsay and Campbell scored. The final run scored on an error by Nelson.

Nelson led off the bottom of the sixth with a single to left but courtesy runner Katie Roslovic got picked off at second.

"What got us here was our defense, and today that's what cost us," coach Jim Campolo said. "When you make five errors in a regional tournament, you're not going to get it done. But hey, I'm proud of these kids for working hard and never giving up."
