Mannen Asefa of Gahanna recently participated in a Multicultural Leadership Program at Miami University.

The weeklong residential program offers academic, leadership and career choice activities to high school students who are selected on the basis of leadership experience, contribution to diversity and academic merit.

Asefa is a student at Bishop Hartley High School.

Ryan Strawser of Gahanna has received a Robert S. Garek High School Merit Scholarship, given at the Marburn Academy in honor of its founder.

The merit award is given to students who demonstrate significant academic and personal growth and who contribute to the overall Marburn community.

St. Vincent Family Centers is accepting nominations for its 2008 Corcoran Awards.

Named in honor of Lawrence Corcoran, the awards recognize the work of five local people in the fields of mental health, children's causes, early childhood or elementary education, social justice and the work of the church.

Run Wild Racing will host the inaugural Spirit of Columbus Half Marathon and FrontRunner Relay on Sunday, Aug. 31, in Columbus.

Beginning at 7:30 a.m., the course will take runners from Scioto Park in Dublin along Riverside Drive with the finish at North Bank Park in downtown Columbus.

Top professionals will compete for a $25,000 purse. Contestants in the master (40+) and wheelchair racer divisions will compete for separate $5,000 purses.

Runners can run the entire half-marathon, or a two-person relay team each can run a quarter-marathon.

To register, visit www.runwildracing.com. Entry fee for the half-marathon is $70 through Aug. 1, and $80 thereafter. Entry for a two-person relay team is $90 through Aug. 1, and $100 thereafter. No race-day registration will be available.
