Olde Gahanna Community Partnership wants to encourage residents in business to embrace the holiday season by stringing lights throughout Olde Gahanna.

Four awards will be given, two each for residential and business, for most festive lights and most lights.

Two residents will receive a gift basket with donations by local businesses. Gift baskets will include donations from Café Creekside, Cold Stone Creamery, Cookie Glass, Creative Memories, Creekside Chiropractic, Gahanna Area Chamber of Commerce, Golden Nails and Salon, Honey Grove Botanicals, Janis & Sandy Hairstyling, Olmo Family Practice, Portraits by Knight, Tilton's Automotive Service and Upscale Resale Furnishings.

Two businesses will receive $200 each.

Judging will begin on Nov. 26 at 6 p.m. All displays must be illuminated to be considered for an award.

Gahanna City Planner Matt Huffman said the lighting contest is an ongoing activity for OGPC.

"They have always encouraged businesses and residents to decorate in preparation for the Holiday Lights! Parade and create a festive atmosphere in Olde Gahanna," he said.

Since this is the 10th anniversary of Holiday Lights! Organizers decided to award prizes this year.

The goal was to bring more people to Olde Gahanna and bring them back once they visit, Huffman said.

"If you are not from Gahanna you will want to come back for dinner, shopping, to walk around Creekside Park and see the lights," he said.

OGPC president and Upscale Resale owner June Auxline said previously OGPC distributed plaques to award winners.

"It is our 10 year anniversary and we want to make it a big boom," she said. "We want to encourage the businesses and residents to get festive and get people in the mood for shopping and enjoying Gahanna."

Auxline said OGPC received overwhelming support from area businesses. She said within a day most of the items for the gift baskets were donated.

Holiday Lights! Will be held on Nov. 29. The parade begins at 6 p.m. and includes marching bands from four high schools and the Buckeye Brass.

The event starts with a holiday storytime breakfast at 8 a.m. There will be visits with Santa and a variety of free children's activities at Creekside Park from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
