To the editor:

The letters to the editor last week from writers supporting the city's donation of $1,000 of taxpayer money to the Gahanna Honor Flight program should have made their point without expressing or insinuating that those who disagree are unpatriotic or unappreciative of our servicemen.

I commend Councilman John McAlister for not using taxpayer money for purposes it was never intended. It's not the role of government to use tax dollars for charitable contributions. If more politicians were of his mindset, our country wouldn't be in such an economic mess now. In regards to a council member's challenge to fellow council members to match his own donation of $100 to the program, I have a better proposal. Councilmen should each contribute $1,000 of their own money and $100 of taxpayer money. This way the program would receive $7,100.00 instead of $1700.00.
