The Gahanna Lincoln High School speech and debate team competed at the Ohio High School Speech League state tournament March 5-7 at Mason High School.

The Gahanna Lincoln High School speech and debate team competed at the Ohio High School Speech League state tournament March 5-7 at Mason High School.

Senior Evan Ecos was the OHSSL state champion in student congress. He competed in four preliminary rounds before advancing to the finals, where he placed first.

Ecos also won outstanding presiding officer, an award presented by his peers.

Four other Gahanna Lincoln students advanced out of the preliminary rounds to compete in the top 24 in their event: Dennis Johnson, U.S. extemporaneous speaking; Dan Moore and Garet Camella, duo interpretation; and Michael Oiler, student congress.

The speech and debate team will focus on upcoming student congress events before beginning preparation for national competition in May.

Lyle Linerode is the head coach of all events. Kristen Juth assists with individual events and Kristin Rosan assists with debate.

First Service Federal Credit Union is sponsoring a spring drive for military troops serving overseas from March 30 through April 17.

In partnership with Operation Buckeye, First Service will assemble boxes containing food items, toiletries, entertainment items and letters of appreciation.

Anyone who wishes to participate in the drive can call Catherine Roebuck at (614) 920-6351 to request a list of items to donate. Donations can be dropped off at any First Service Federal Credit Union office during regular business hours.

Jersey Baptist Church, 13260 Morse Road, will present the Easter pageant "Bow the Knee" at 7 p.m. April 2-5.

"Bow the Knee" tells the story of Anthony, a Roman centurion, and Jesus, as their stories intertwine through Jesus' birth, death, resurrection and beyond.

Seating is limited to 1,000 per night.
