The National Merit Scholarship Corporation has announced an additional 2,000 winners of National Merit Scholarships financed by colleges and universities.

Gahanna resident Skyler Jordan received a scholarship from Denison University. Jordan plans to study medicine.

Officials of each sponsor college selected their winners from finalists in the National Merit Scholarship program who will attend their institution. College-sponsored awards provide between $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study at the institution financing the scholarship.


Virtual Community School of Ohio, an online school, recently honored the class of 2009 at a graduation ceremony held at the Bridgewater Banquet and Conference Center in Powell.

Local members of the graduating class included Melina Zambrano of Blacklick,who was class valedictorian, and Stephanie Pugh of Gahanna.
