Two residents recently graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.

Two residents recently graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.

They are Air Force Airman Demetrius D. Staples, the son of Aljeana Staples of Blacklick, and Air National Guard Airman Kyle A. Grassel, the son of Jill Eley of Gahanna and Kevin Grassel of Mount Gilead.

The airmen completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness and basic warfare principles and skills.

Grassel earned distinction as an honor graduate.

Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Grassel is a 2008 graduate of Gahanna Lincoln High School and Staples is a 2009 graduate of Licking Heights Senior High School.
