The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) will present Gahanna with a $366,021 check at 11 a.m. today (Sept. 30) at Academy Park, 1201 Cherrybottom Road.

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) will present Gahanna with a $366,021 check at 11 a.m. today (Sept. 30) at Academy Park, 1201 Cherrybottom Road.

The Clean Ohio Trails Fund grant will be used to construct sections 1 and 2 of the Big Walnut Trail, totaling 6,316 square feet and providing an outlook point, drainage, fencing, signs, site furnishings and site preparation.

The Clean Ohio Trails Fund provides reimbursement of up to 75-percent matching state funds. The goal of the trails fund is to improve outdoor recreational opportunities for Ohioans by funding trails for outdoor pursuits of all kinds.

The ODNR also has recommended that Gahanna receive a $73,116 grant through the Recreation Trails Program for the Big Walnut Trail.

Under the Recreation Trails Program, up to 80-percent matching federal funds are reimbursed.

All projects must be completed within 18 months from the date that they are signed into contract.

Thursday's check presentation will include Sean Logan, director of ODNR, state Rep. Nancy Garland (D-New Albany), state Sen. David Goodman (R-New Albany) and local officials.

The public is invited to attend.
