Third suspect in aggravated robbery taken into custody

On Monday Oct. 4, the Swan Cleaners at 1247 North Hamilton Road was the victim of an Aggravated Robbery. On Oct. 20 the Gahanna Police requested the assistance from the Media and Public for help in identifying one of the suspects believed to be in the get-a-way vehicle at the time of the robbery and in identifying the suspect vehicle as well.

After the City of Gahanna released information asking for the public's assistance on Wednesday, multiple media outlets immediately shared this information with their audiences. On the following day, the Gahanna Police received a tip that led to the arrest of two suspects and issued an arrest warrant for another individual responsible for the robbery of Swan Cleaners.

Carla L. Spaulding, age 35, of 2203 McGuffey Street Columbus, Ohio was arrested and charged with complicity to robbery; James L. Varney, age 21, of 3571 Cypress Club Way Columbus, Ohio was arrested for Aggravated Robbery; and, an arrest warrant for complicity to aggravated robbery was issued for Richard D. Harrell who remains at large.

The Gahanna Police located and impounded the vehicle that was used in the robbery as well as the handgun, a Colt .25.caliber semiautomatic pistol that was used in the commission of the crime.

UPDATE: On Oct. 25, at 2:10 p.m., the third suspect in the Swan Cleaners robbery case, Richard D. Harrell, who police had issued an arrest warrant for complicity to aggravated robbery surrendered to police at the Gahanna Police station. He was taken into custody, processed, interviewed and transported to the Franklin County Jail until his arraignment. All three suspects believed to be involved in the Swan Cleaners robbery have been arrested.
